ÃÛ¶¹ÊÓƵ Named NECC Esports Conference Champions
On Friday, January 31, ÃÛ¶¹ÊÓƵ was named the Conference Champions, defeating both Becker College and New England College in the Super Smash Bros. Tournament.
The Esports Showcase and Championship was held at Becker College by the NECC, in partnership with the Massachusetts Digital Game Institute (MassDiGI).
The Showcase featured Q&A, a student-athlete panel discussion (featuring students from ÃÛ¶¹ÊÓƵ, Becker College and New England College) and panel discussions by industry leaders, including Assistant Professor and Program Coordinator of Dean's Sport Management program, Dr. Ernie May. Following the sessions was the gaming showcase, where NECC members competed to determine a conference champion. Dean came out on top with student Kevin Shay '21 receiving NECC's first-ever Esports trophy, winning the Super Smash Bros. Tournament.
"I am extremely proud of our Esports students that competed. The event at Becker was our first off-campus Esports competition, and our students did a great job representing Bulldog Nation," said May.
Esports is one of the fastest-growing competitive groups on college campuses. ÃÛ¶¹ÊÓƵ offers an Esports club along with several competitions throughout the year.
